Lorraine Kelly has spoken out on the recent decision to have Declan Donnelly host Saturday Night Takeaway without his TV bud, Ant McPartlin.
Ant was recently charged with drink-driving after causing a crash in Richmond – and has since pulled out of all of his current TV commitments.
And now telly host Lorraine has claimed that Dec is right to continue without his presenting partner – claiming he could go on to be a star in his own right.
Chatting on her namesake show on Thursday, Lorraine said, “You know, we were talking about this yesterday and I said ‘well why not?'”
Continuing, she confessed that while it could take Ant some time to recover, Dec could enjoy a successful, solo career. 58-year-old Lorraine even suggested that Dec could become as successful as one late TV icon…
“He could go on – nobody knows what’s going to happen because it’s going to take Ant as long as it takes to get him better and hopefully he will.
“But Dec’s a good presenter, I mean he could end up being the Bruce Forsyth of this world, who knows?”
Lorraine however went on to lend her support to Ant, 42, stating that he should take as much time as he can. She also suggested that after his first stint in rehab, he returned to TV work too quickly.
She said, “He just needs to get better and he needs to take as much time as he can because lots of people are saying he came back too quick,”
“I know it was his decision to come back and do I’m A Celebrity but he came back too fast so you can’t put a time limit on it.”
Recently, it was alleged that Ant had given his best friend his blessing to go ahead and honour their TV commitments without him.
According to reports, insiders claimed, “Dec wouldn’t go ahead without Ant giving him the OK. Because of their previous pact to work together throughout their career.”
We’re wishing Ant well during this tough time.
