Coleen Nolan has revealed she is taking a 'hiatus' from her commitments on Loose Women, in an official statement posted to her social media.
The news follows an undeniably tough week for the star, who has faced an onslaught of backlash from the general public after taking part in an interview on Loose Women with her former CBB co-star, Kim Woodburn.
She also shared that she is postponing her recently announced solo tour.
The statement posted by Coleen’s team read, ‘Following the constant online bullying, trolling, and misrepresentation of her words, actions and re-actions, it is with sad regret that Coleen is taking an immediate hiatus from all her current commitments including Loose Women and postponing her Never Too Late solo concert tour.’
‘Coleen has spent 50 years in show-business and 18 years as one of the most loved members of the Loose Women panel, and has never been subjected to such a horrifying torrent of online abuse or such a heart-breaking attack on her reputation.
‘Coleen is devastated to let her supporters and fans down, but is currently not strong enough to withstand this constant and unfounded online abuse, so she will be taking time out and spending it with her children and family where she feels loved and respected.
‘She sends her love to everyone who has supported her and knows who she really is and plans to return when she feels stronger.’
For the past week, Coleen has faced criticism for allegedly ‘bullying’ Kim, former ‘How Clean is your House‘ presenter, when she appeared on the ITV daytime show.
She and Kim appeared in the Celebrity Big Brother house together, and certainly didn’t see eye-to-eye.
During the Loose Women interview, many viewers slammed Coleen for ‘muttering under her breath’ while Kim was speaking, and being ‘passive aggressive’ with the 78-year-old.
Coleen also appeared on This Morning earlier this week, but broke down in tears when explaining that she’s even received death threats from viewers – and that there is a campaign to get her fired from her slot on Loose Women.
She told hosts Holly and Phil, “I honestly I don’t know what to say. If I could go back in time, I would change the whole thing. It was never meant to be like that, I thought Kim was coming on to make amends.
“It didn’t go that way obviously from the moment she came out. It was genuinely shocking for the both of us. I didn’t want anyone to be distressed. It’s been the worst week of my life.”
Coleen continued, “But to be called a bully and to have messages like “Why can’t you die like your sister”, “Why can’t you have cancer like your sister?” They send me these revolting messages.”
However, Coleen has also had her defenders, with many flocking to her statement last night to say that she did ‘nothing wrong’.
Meanwhile her Loose Women co-stars have broken their silence on her decision to step back from the show, with Kaye Adams showing the ladies’ support at the start of today’s show.
“Before we get started, as some of you may be aware, Coleen is taking a bit of time out from Loose Women,” Kaye explained. ‘We all just want to send her our love and our very best wishes.
“Coleen is brilliant on Loose Women and we really hope to see her back here very soon indeed.”
