She turned her hand to everything from Emmerdale to a stage production of Aladdin, so no one can accuse Lisa Riley of not being a versatile actress.
Now the 40-year-old is returning to our screens once more. And this time she’s tapping into her grittier side. The Loose Women regular stars as the mother of an abuse victim in new BBC1 drama Three Girls.
Based on the real-life Rochdale grooming scandal, we predict that this is going to make for compelling TV viewing.
Writer Nicole Taylor gives us a hint of what’s to come:
“Whatever I thought I knew about what had happened in Rochdale, I knew nothing until I met the girls and their families.
“Listening to them was the beginning of understanding – not just of the terrible suffering they experienced, but of the courage it took to persist and persist over years, in telling authorities who didn’t want to know, and ultimately participate in the court proceedings that brought justice.”
Airing on Tuesday night, the three-part drama also stars Jill Halfpenny and Maxine Peake.
