Whether you’re reaching for a warming cup of tea or a revitalizing cup of coffee, many of us rely on caffeine to wake us up in the morning and give us the energy we need to see us through the morning’s tasks. However, experts have now revealed a new trick to wake yourself up in the morning that is completely caffeine free and will keep you feeling awake and alert all day. Also, it takes just 90 seconds – and all you need is a shower.
How to wake yourself up in the morning – the natural way
The 90-second shower trick involves changing the temperature of the water after you have finished your morning routine.
Simply turn the dial so that the water runs cold for 30 seconds whilst you are standing underneath it, then quickly switch it so the water then runs hot for the next 30 seconds. Finish by standing under cold water again for 30 seconds, before switching the shower off and stepping out.
Apparently, the sudden change in temperature will increase the blood flow around your body which helps stimulate and energise you, in addition to waking up your mind and making you more alert.
Apparently busy business woman and mum-of-four Victoria Beckham uses the technique daily. The former pop-star turned fashion designer certainly needs the pick-me up, as she recently confessed that she goes on a three mile run every morning before hitting the gym with her personal trainer for hour.
While most of us would be knackered after such an intense start to the day, Victoria dashes back home to make her kids breakfast. “It gives me just enough time to get to the kitchen to puree Romeo’s avocados. His toast jumps out of the toaster the minute he comes down for breakfast.” Phew!
