The Duchess of Cambridge is known for being partial to an off-the-shoulder style of gown. She turned heads at the National History Museum last year in a slinky white shoulder-baring dress, and wowed on the red carpet at this year’s BAFTAs in a floral, floor-length Alexander McQueen gown.
Last night, the Duchess turned to Alexander McQueen again, for another show stealing off-the-shoulder number in Germany.
A departure from the structure and tailoring of some of Kate’s most recent fashion choices, the boho-style dress chosen for the evening’s event was inspired by ‘the folkloric history of the Shetland Islands’ and was taken from the design house’s Spring ’17 collection.
The bold red dress was yet another diplomatic choice by the Duchess, as red makes up one third of the colours of the German flag. Kate teamed her silk-blend chiffon dress with a pair of beaded drop earrings by Irish jeweller Simone Rocha. She also wore a pair of nude heels by Prada.
The Kate Middleton red dress was the centre of attention at last night’s soiree, a birthday party held in honour of the Queen at the British Ambassador’s residence in Berlin. The Duke and Duchess met guests from the worlds of business and culture, as well as representatives of the British Community in Germany.
Prince William also made his second speech of the royal tour. He spoke of the shared values between Germany and the UK and the shared, “fundamental interest in the peace and prosperity of the continent of Europe to which we both belong.”
During the day, the couple’s first in Germany, the Duchess of Cambridge opted for a blue jacket by Catherine Walker.

The family of four travelled from Poland to Germany by private jet in the morning. Touching down in Berlin, all four royals were dressed in colour co-ordinating blue outfits.
Princess Charlotte once again the stole show. Her mother’s mini-me, dressed in a blue dress she received a small version of the flowers given to Kate upon their arrival. Adorable!
