Taking up her duties as royal patron of Wimbledon once more, the Duchess of Cambridge attended the first day of the Wimbledon Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Wimbledon in 2017.
This year, Kate opted for a spotted Dolce & Gabbanna dress which she paired with a large tote and on-trend black summer sandals.
Kate also raised eyebrows with a new ‘do, showing off a considerably shorter style that she has worn in recent years.
2016
The Duchess of Cambridge, along with Prince William was lucky enough to watch Andy Murray play his way into history when he won the Men’s Singles Final in 2016. Watching the tense match from the royal box, Kate wore an elegant, and very regal, jewel print dress by her go-to designer – Alexander McQueen.
2016
After taking over the royal patronage of Wimbledon from the Queen, the Duchess of Cambridge began attending Wimbledon on her own, to be given a tour of the grounds and to meet those who help make the summer event such a success. In 2016, wearing an eye-catching yellow Roksanda Ilincic midi dress, the Duchess of Cambridge was snapped meeting ball boys and girls, before settling down to watch a day of tennis.
2012
After her official visit to Wimbledon in 2012, the Duchess of Cambridge also decided to attend a second day of the Wimbledon Championships. Taking along her sister Pippa, the Duchess wore a white two piece suit jacket and skirt by Joseph and accessorized with a leopard print clutch.
2008
Kate Middleton and her friend Sophie Carter went to watch Wimbledon together in 2008. Kate chose a white dress with small polka dot print by Issa for the event, the first year that she was invited into the VIP section of the tennis club by invitation of the chairman.
After the occasion, Kate wrote to the All England Club to thank them for their hospitality. In a letter, displayed by Wimbledon since, Kate wrote:
“My friend and I had such a fantastic time and it was great to be able to enjoy the day knowing we could have a little peace and quite (sic) if things got too hectic. It was a wonderfully relaxed day and we even spent part of it on the Henman/Murray Hill which was great fun. I really was not expecting to be looked after with such hospitality and I certainly was not expecting to see any of the Centre Court games.”
“Thank you so much for the wonderful seats. It was so special to see the end of Murray’s game and Nadal’s easy walk into the quarter finals. Thank you again for making it such a fun and enjoyable/easy visit.”
The note is dated July 12, 2008 is signed “Best wishes, Catherine Middleton”
