In the time it takes to cook a pan of pasta you can make this really quick and healthy tomato and caper pasta sauce using storecupboard ingredients – so much cheaper than a shop bought sauce.

300g pasta
2 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, sliced
1 garlic clove, crushed
400g can chopped tomatoes
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
Pinch of sugar
2tbsp capers
160g can tuna, drained
1 Cook the pasta in a large pan of boiling salted water for 10 mins until just tender.
2 While the pasta is cooking, heat the oil in a large frying pan. Add the onion and cook for 3 mins, stirring, until softened. Add the garlic, tomatoes, vinegar, sugar and capers. Bring to the boil then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 mins, stirring occasionally.
3 Add the tuna to the sauce and season with ground black pepper and warm through.
4 Drain the pasta, add to the sauce and stir well to mix.
