Mini mars bar cakes recipeWe’ve sneaked a sliver of Mars bar into the centre of these choccy cakes and smothered them in melted Mars bars.

3 large eggs

150g unsalted butter

150g light muscovado sugar

125g self-raising flour

25g cocoa

50g plain chocolate (Bournville), melted

1 Mars bar, cut into 6

6 mini loaf tins (from Sainsbury’s)


For the Mars bar ganache:

6 Mars bars, sliced

25g butter

4tbsp double cream


1. Heat the oven to 180C, Gas 4. Combine the eggs, butter, sugar, flour and cocoa. Mix together gently with an electric mixer, to combine. Pour in melted chocolate and mix until smooth.

2. Put the loaf cases on a baking tray, half fill each loaf case with cake mixture, add a slice of Mars Bar in each and top with the rest of the chocolate cake mixture. Bake for 20 mins until well risen and firm.

3. Reserve 6 slices of Mars bar. Put the remaining Mars bars into a non-stick pan with the butter and double cream. Heat gently, stirring until melted and smooth.

4. Spoon ganache on top of the cakes and finish each one with a Mars bar slice.
