We all love a G&T on a Friday night. Plus, we can’t get enough of the new anti-ageing gin!

Unfortunately our bank balances are about to suffer the consequences of our taste for G&T. The reason? Increased alcohol duties!

As a nation, we already pay £3.3 billion in spirits duty. However, inflation is set to rise by 3% this year. This means that spirits could go up an extra 34p a litre!

Miles Beale, chief executive of the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, complained that drinkers are already paying a “staggering amount” in duty.

Speaking to The Telegraph, he said: “Unless the government reviews this policy, the rise in inflation will slap a further £60m on spirits consumers.”

So, drink up while you can gin lovers!
