With just a sheet of ready-rolled pastry, a pack of marzipan and a few apples you can whip up this delicious apple tart. You don’t even need a rolling pin, just unroll the pastry, add the toppings and bake – how easy is that?

3 eating apples, halved and cored

Juice of 1 lemon

320g sheet ready-rolled puff pastry

250g packet white marzipan, coarsely grated

2 tbsp icing sugar

1 Heat the oven to 200C, gas 6. Toss the apple halves in lemon juice. Unroll the pastry onto a flat baking sheet and sprinkle the marzipan over the top, leaving a 2cm border around the sides.

2 Hold an apple half in a bridge shape and thinly slice. Lift up the apples keeping the slices together in the original apple shape and place in one corner of the pastry on top of the marzipan. Press gently to spread the slices slightly. Repeat with the remaining apple halves.

3 Dust half the icing sugar over the apples and bake for 30 mins until the pastry is golden and the apples are tender. Dust with remaining icing sugar. Serve warm with cream or ice cream.
