The ‘Decanter World Wine Awards’ crowned the bottle of red wine from Asda as Best in Show. The budget bottle beat over 16,000 bottles entered into a blind taste test.

La Moneda Reserve Malbec from Chile scooped up the much coveted accolade of ‘Platinum Best in Show’ at the industry awards. The wine was compared to “succulent juicy berries on the palate”.


For those who haven’t tasted it, the red tastes of “freshly crushed black fruit, creamy vanilla yoghurt and pepper spice”. Wine experts said it had “an excellent freshness” with punch that was “full of energy with a great price point”.

Aldi’s Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut, just £9.99, ranked above Laurent-Perrier Brut (£38), Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Ponsardin (£35) and Moët & Chandon’s Brut Imperial Champagne (£32.50).
