Emmerdale star Laura Norton has revealed how she managed to shed three stone, and it seems she only had to give up one thing.

The 35-year-old actress had somewhat of an addiction to Coca Cola and sometimes found herself drinking up to four litres a day.

This meant Laura was consuming 1,700 calories and 106 teaspoons of sugar – the equivalent of 12 Mars Bars – in her favourite drink alone.

Laura has admitted that it was an addiction, explaining: “I had been addicted since I was a teenager. At its worst I used to drink two 2-litre bottles of Coke a day. I know now how much sugar is in it.

“But, when you are addicted, you don’t realise how much you are getting through. In the end, it was my dad who pointed it out.”

She continued: “One day I was at home in my pyjamas and I wanted him to go to the off-licence to get me some Coke. I think he just thought it had gone too far.

“It was so much caffeine, so much sugar, so bad for your teeth. I think I am lucky I still have a tooth in my head.”

Laura went on to say that it was also her role in Emmerdale, playing Kerry Wyatt, that spurred her on to lose some weight too.

“I was in skimpy outfits all the time on telly, and the camera also adds weight to you, so I thought I’d do something,” she said, according to The Mirror.

“I started to do a bit of exercise, which I hadn’t done for years. You get a bit older and weight is harder to lose. Then I cut the Coca-Cola out and started to notice the difference and then just decided to keep it up.”

However, Laura was keen to stress that her attitude to weight and fitness is all about living a healthy life – not because she feels she must look a certain way because she’s in the public eye.

“I don’t feel pressure. I think it is important to just be happy and healthy,” she explained.

“We are representing real people and they come in all shapes and sizes. I am not naturally skinny, and I am fine with that, but I do want to look after myself and not just because I am on TV.

“I want to look the best I can, while I can, because life is running away. I want good hair, I want nice skin, I want to be able to fit into a dress like I did at the Soap Awards,” she added.

Good for you Laura, we think you look great!
