Shameless star Tina Malone may have landed herself in hot water recently, after sharing what it said to be an image of one of James Bulger’s killers, Jon Venables.

The 55-year-old actress reportedly retweeted a Twitter picture of the man, who was arrested in 1993 for the two-year-old’s murder, alongside Robert Thompson.

Jon, along with Robert, was however was granted a lifelong anonymity order in 1993, after he was convicted of James’ murder. The order means that people are prohibited from sharing images of men who they claim are either of the murderers.

But it’s thought that Tina could be facing a police investigation, after sharing the photo with her 23.2k followers.

Speaking to the Star on Sunday, Tina has defended the move – stating that she didn’t know it was illegal.

“I didn’t have a clue it was illegal.

“What are you going to do… prosecute me for posting a picture? I didn’t realise. I am not au fait with the law.”

Jon Venables was released from prison in 2001 on parole after serving eight years in a detention facility. He and Robert were arrested for the murder of James Bulger, after luring him away from his mother Denise whilst in the New Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle, Liverpool.

A worldwide injunction was placed on Jon and Robert after they were released, after the Home Secretary at the time said their lives would be at risk if people found out who they are.

David Blunkett said, “The injunction was granted because there was a real and strong possibility that their lives would be at risk if their identities became known.”

Jon Venables was re-admitted to prison however in 2017, after he was caught with child sex abuse images.

He is currently serving two years in the prison. However, he has had to be moved multiple times, due to threats on his life from his fellow prisoners.
