Former Gogglebox star and ITV favourite Scarlett Moffatt has come under fire for her latest sweet gesture for her little sister Ava – which meant taking her out of school during the first days of term.
Doting big sister Scarlett has made no secret of her adoration for 11-year-old Ava, who made her Gogglebox debut with her family back in April last year.
And her latest treat for her is probably her sweetest yet – having taken Ava on holiday to New York for a holiday, just days after uploading a tribute celebrating Ava’s first day of secondary school.
The star first uploaded a cute clip of her and sister Ava excitedly waiting to board their flight, and since then has shared plenty of adorable snapshots of their trip.
The duo have enjoyed elaborate ‘unicorn’ breakfasts out, a trip to see the Lion King on Broadway, and even a day out to the RuPaul’s Drag Convention (after Scarlett was slammed earlier this year for her drag-themed birthday gifts to her sister).
Plenty of Scarlett’s fans have commented to say how nice it is of her to take her little sister on a trip of a lifetime, with one exclaiming: “This is amazing! I’d love to be able to take my lil Sis to see the Big Apple x”.
“What a lucky little sister to have you. Sharing success is a truly kind and lovely thing xxx”, said another.
However other social media users have blasted the reality star for taking Ava out of school during term time.
“I don’t know if you know but for a schoolchild the weekend starts after school on a Friday,” said one, whilst another said: “Every day a child misses at school matters and if she’s just started secondary then it’s very important.”
In a statement in response to the comments, Scarlett’s agent Noel insisted that “Scarlett’s mum obtained permission from her school for Ava’s holiday.”
And there was outrage from Scarlett’s legions of loyal followers, who jumped to the star’s defence.
“@scarlett_moffatt I think it’s really lovely what you’ve done for your sister and ignore what others say about taking your sister out of school x”, said one.
