Saira Khan struggled to hold back her tears as she discussed her shock exit from Dancing On Ice during an appearance on Loose Women.
The panellist was on the show today with her former DOI partner, professional skater Mark Hanretty, and confessed she was ‘gutted’ to be out of the competition.
Becoming tearful as she watched her best bits from the ice, Saira told the panel, “I’m going to be really honest, I am really gutted. I genuinely am really gutted.
“Mark was just taking me to that next stage. And it was Fairytale Week this week so we didn’t want to do loads of dancing away from each other. It’s Cinderella, it’s Prince Charming, we wanted to tell a story about being lifted up in the air and in love.
“All Mark wanted to do was make me look so elegant and pretty, that was Cinderella!”
Saira also admitted that her husband, Steve, tried to prepare her children for her exit after he discovered she was in the dreaded skate-off.
She added, “They came to every single show – it became part of their life. Apparently when Steve realised I was in the skate-off he was going round to my son saying, ‘Mummy’s going to go out tonight’.
“He kept saying, ‘Daddy stop saying that, she might not go out!’ [But Steve said], ‘No she is, I think she’s going to go out.’”
Saira lost her place in the competition after losing the skate-off to cricketer Ryan Sidebottom, who sat out of last week’s competition due to an injury.
However, many viewers suggested it should have been Gemma Collins to leave as she received the lowest score of the evening.
Touching on the backlash, Saira said, “I’ve got to give credit where credit’s due, she [Gemma] came up to me last night and said, ‘I should have been in the skate-off not you’.
“She did say that, honestly. She knows it. But look, it’s a TV show. It’s about performance and people are keeping her in. Whatever you think of her, I want to watch her on the ice.
“I want to know what she does next. This is where it’s TV versus a skating show.”
