Following the announcement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement, the British public are now excitedly waiting to welcome another fabulous female into the royal family.
Meghan will be joining the Duchess of Cambridge by marrying into the ‘the firm’, as a non-royal (by blood) who will now become a key member of the family.
But despite their similarities, it seems the two ever-stylish ladies won’t be coming together for Meghan’s wedding to her beau Prince Harry.
Nope, it seems that despite rumours, Kate really ISN’T likely to play a key role in Meghan’s big day – despite all our hopes.
It had been rumoured for a while that mum-of-two Catherine might be Meghan’s maid of honour or bridesmaid. After all, she’s likely one of the only people who truly understands the role Meghan is about to take on.
However, it seems that the Duchess – who will likely have just given birth to her third child by the time of the wedding – will just be attending a guest.
But why? Well, according to royal expert Marlene Koenig, there are a few reasons why Catherine is unlikely to be a bridesmaid or maid of honour at the nuptials.
Firstly – and most obviously – the pair likely just don’t really know each other that well yet.
She told Cosmopolitan, “The Duchess of Cambridge barely knows Meghan.” – seems fair enough to us!
But also, the Duchess is now of course a married woman. And it’s that status that traditionally prevents her from playing the role of bridesmaid. This is because it’s a place usually taken by a single woman.
And likely most importantly, Catherine is the wife of the future King of England. As such, it would be improper, by royal standards, for her to be an ‘attending person’ for another royal bride.
Marlene explained, “For another, she is the future queen consort when William becomes king after his father, and would unlikely be an attending person to another royal bride.”
Never mind – at least we’ll still get to see Catherine in a stunning dress, even if she does attend as just a guest!
