Prince Harry is now happily married to Meghan Markle – but there was a time in 2014 when he was heartbroken over the demise of his relationship with Cressida Bonas.
And now, according to a royal biographer, the real reason Cressida dumped her Prince is because she was ‘spooked’ watching Kate and Wills on their first overseas tour of Australia and New Zealand with a young Prince George.
Katie Nicholl, author of Harry: Life, Loss, and Love, claims Cressida – who dated Harry for two years between 2012 and 2014 – saw the TV coverage as a ‘wake up call’ of what her life would be like if she stayed with Harry.
“Cressida had been ‘completely spooked’ while watching TV coverage of William, Kate and George touring New Zealand and Australia that spring,” Katie wrote.
“There was no way she wanted that sort of attention and she told Harry so.”
But Harry wasn’t ready for the relationship to end because he was “in love with her”.
“He tried to convince her they could make it work, but Cressida’s mind was made up,” Katie wrote.
“Harry suffered a real blow when she said, ‘I can’t do this’. I think she really broke his heart.”
“Twice [Harry] had been left heartbroken because the women he had fallen in love with didn’t want to share the life he had been born into,” Katie added, referring to his other ex Chelsy Davy, who also decided the life of a royal bride “was not for her”.
The heartache is clearly behind the both of them though, with Cressida even bagging an invite to Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding in May 2018.
Harry and Meghan are of course now parents to their first child together, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
Meanwhile Cressida is now happily engaged chartered surveyor Harry Wentworth-Stanley, sharing a loved-up snap of the pair on her Instagram during his birthday last May.
