Pasha Kovalev reportedly quit Strictly Come Dancing because his girlfriend Rachel Riley ‘feared they’d fall victim to the show’s curse’.
The pro dancer announced he has left the hit BBC series after eight years on Wednesday, and now it’s been claimed that his decision was all down to maintaining his relationship.
Pasha and Rachel met on the 2013 series of the show before sparking up a romance one year later.
And now Rachel is said to have felt uncomfortable with Pasha spending so much time with attractive female celebrities, including 2018 partner Ashley Roberts.
The Countdown star is also said to have thought Pasha was being underpaid for his work on the show.
“Rachel is adamant Pasha is being paid far less than his hours deserve,” a Strictly insider reportedly told The Sun.
“Strictly has a particularly gruelling schedule and when you weigh that up against his pay packet, she feels it’s not worth it.
They added, “Pasha isn’t one of the more unionist dancers who push back at producers when they’re working 18 hour days.
“He just sees it as part of the job.”
Pasha announced his retirement from Strictly on Wednesday, posting a statement on Twitter, he said, “After scoring 93 perfect tens, reaching 4 finals and lifting 1 glitter ball, it’s time for me to find a new challenge and so I’ve decided to make last year – my final season on Strictly.
“I’ve had 8 fantastic years, full of wonderful memories, thanks to the incredible partners, professionals and myriad of behind the scenes teams who all work to make Strictly the amazing production that it is.
“The biggest thanks goes to all the members of the public who’ve supported me so much over these years – I look forward to seeing you on the Strictly Pro-Tour this spring, and for many future adventures to come!”
Woman has contacted representatives for Pasha and Rachel for comment.
