Royal fans were up in arms yesterday after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wished Prince George a happy sixth birthday.
After the Kensington Royal Instagram account shared a series of snaps in honour of the future King’s special day, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry posted a comment beneath one of the photos from their own Sussex Royal account, penning a sweet birthday wish to the young Prince.
It read, “Happy Birthday 🎂🎈! Wishing you a very special day and lots of love!”
But some passionate critics quickly hit back at the post, with many slamming Meghan and Harry for addressing the youngster with the wrong title.
One angrily remarked, “Happy birthday to who? He is HRH PRINCE GEORGE!!!! Future King!”
And another piped up to add, “His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge he is the future King and to be your King.”
Seemingly making a dig at former Suits actress Meghan’s past in the spot light, one slammed, “They still have to show deference and respect to him. It is the British royal family, not some Hollywood film set!”
Luckily, lots of supportive followers made to sure to defend the comment from the new parents, with one chipping in, “It was a heartfelt cute little greeting for her nephew. This obsession with titles is ridiculous. Im pretty sure George does not even give one f. The audacity of telling a royal about titles when most of their fanbases dont even do that is appalling.”
While one more continued, “Why does it matter? It’s not like it the end of the world. Don’t you have better things to do than worry about names? Seriously has the world gone mad over a title. I swear people have forgotten we have important things to worry about.”
