Eamonn Holmes seemingly made a subtle dig at his This Morning co-star Rochelle Humes yesterday.
While firm favourites Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby are on their Easter break, 30-year-old Rochelle and John Barrowman, 52, stepped in to present the telly programme.
However, one viewer clearly wasn’t impressed by Rochelle’s hosting skills and took to Twitter with a critical message claiming she ‘isn’t a natural’ – which Eamonn, 59, then ‘liked’.
The Tweet reads, “I have absolutely nothing against Rochelle she seems to be a lovely gentle person but for me she’s just not a natural TV presenter.
“For me the most genuine and relatable person and who just oozes natural ease in front of the camera is Eamonn Holmes. #ThisMorning.”
Eamonn – who has been co-hosting This Morning with his wife Ruth, 59, every Friday since 2006 – then went on to reply to the fan message thanking them for the support.
He wrote, “God bless you Fiona ….. but I think a lot of people will disagree with you. All I try to do is do my homework , be real and pretend there’s no glass screen between you and me. I am most complimented that you recognise that. Thank you x”
Following the social media row, Eamonn has now defended his actions, insisting that he was only ‘liking’ the compliment about himself.
Writing a statement on Twitter, he said, “In response to #FakeNews from recognising a compliment from a follower. Heaven forbid, something nice should be said about me but I will willingly and constantly say nice things about @RochelleHumes. For the record one of my favourite people & a gifted talented personality.”
And it looks like there’s no bad blood as Rochelle responded to the message, “And you are one of mine. Rochelle Holmes for life.”
Despite some criticism from fans, Rochelle and John’s daytime partnership was also praised by viewers, with many complimenting their ‘hilarious’ chemistry.
“#ThisMorning Monday is so much fun intertwined with very serious subjects. Rochelle and John are both FABULOUS ,” one wrote.
Rochelle stood in for Holly when she replaced Ant McPartlin on I’m A Celebrity with Declan Donnelly last year.
The former Saturdays star also stepped in again in February when Holly fell ill.
