Paul Daniels' late wife is open to meeting someone new, but she's wary of being taken advantage of.

Debbie McGee became a widow in 2016, when her husband of 28 years Paul died at the age of 77 from a brain tumour.

And, now she’s opened up about the prospect of finding love again and the challenges that could bring – particularly when people could target the 59-year-old for her money.

“Oh yes, that is very much an issue. I’m not very trusting. I haven’t had that sparkle with anyone,” she confessed. “Not that I’m against the idea. If I walk into the hotel lobby and meet someone today, then great, but if I’m honest, I’m a bit afraid of that idea. I’d like it to happen but I’m afraid of getting hurt.”

Although Debbie also revealed that she and her magician husband never had as much money as everyone thought, saying, “We never had as much as people seemed to think. Paul saved, so he could turn work down. We weren’t big spenders.”

Debbie previously said she didn’t understand how people could re-marry so quickly following the death of a loved one, but now she’s realised that the love never goes away.

“When you love someone, and they die, that love doesn’t die, too. You still have it, but what do you do with it? Where does it go? You want it to go somewhere,” Debbie explained.

“You know those people you hear about who marry again after a year, or two years? I never got it,” she said. “I always thought, ‘Why would you do that?’”

Debbie reached the final of Strictly Come Dancing last year with professional partner, Giovanni Pernice. And she cited the show for helping her overcome Paul’s tragic death.

She said, “Until now there was always a knot in my stomach about the fact that I’d lost him… They make you feel so good [on Strictly], I feel genuinely happy.”

We’re so pleased to hear it!
