Loose Women presenter Ruth Langsford has offered up her sympathies to TV host Ant McPartlin, following the exciting announcement of his best bud Declan Donnelly’s baby news.

While the 58-year-old was delighted for her TV friend Dec – she was quick to recognise that the announcement may be tough to bear for Ant – who has not had kids, but has spoken previously about his desire to.

She said,  “Yesterday it was announced that Declan Donnelly and his wife Ali are expecting a baby – lovely, lovely news!

Ruth then went on to acknowledge Ant’s feelings, sharing that he and his former wife Lisa Armstrong had struggled to have children.

She said, “Obviously it must be quite difficult for his TV partner Ant what with everything going on his life at the moment. And he has said in an interview in the past that he and his wife had been trying and that they had struggled.”

Fellow panellist Saira Khan echoed the sentiment, revealing she has been in a similar position.

Saira has openly spoken about her inability to fall pregnant – and has since adopted a daughter.

Live on the show, she confessed, “When I heard the news I thought of Ant straight away because I’ve been in Ant’s situation.”

In a 2014 interview with the Radio Times, 42-year-old Ant spoke about his hopes for starting a family – but shared that it hadn’t exactly happened the way he’d hoped.

He said, “There’s a rumour that we [Dec and I] do everything together and I’m holding off having kids till Dec finds himself Mrs Right. I love that idea, but I’m afraid it’s not true.

“Lisa and I would love to have kids. We’re trying. It’s tougher than you think when you get a bit older.”

Earlier this year, Ant however filed for divorce from wife of 12 years Lisa. And recently of course, Ant has faced a drink-driving charge, after a collision with another vehicle in Richmond a week ago.

Since then, Ant has also stepped down from his various TV commitments, including Saturday Night Takeaway, and re-entered rehab. The TV star and his partner Dec have also been dropped from their deal with car firm Suzuki – which was reported to be with £20 million.

Dec will present the final two episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway on his own.
