Emmerdale’s story line has been hotting up in the past couple of weeks. Last night’s episode culminated with the death of popular character Finn Barton, who was shot by his mum Emma.

Actor Joe Gill has been on the soap for four years but wanted to pursue something new.

He told What’s On TV: “I’m very proud of the work and the character, but creatively I felt that my time had naturally come to an end and I’d like to play a different character. It was for purely professional reasons.”

Joe added: “I’ve not got a bad word to say about Emmerdale; it’s fantastic, but I just felt it was time for me personally, as an actor, to move on. And as they say, you should leave whilst you’re on a high.”

Fans of the soap were left heartbroken and took to Twitter to express their thoughts.
