There is nothing like getting back to nature and setting off on an adventure to explore beautiful rural corners of the UK.
In the past, a holiday in the great outdoors would mean you needed a tent or a caravan in tow – but no more! The days of huddling under canvas in a cold sleeping bag, whilst someone tries to make a cuppa on a wobbly Trangia can now be a thing of the past thanks to the many UK ‘glamping’ destinations. Tents are replaced by tipis and treehouses, and the places to stay feel more like a luxury hotel than luxury camping!
From the Lake Distrcit down to the Cornish coast, these are the best UK glamping spots….
Treetops Treehouse – Eggesford, Devon
Immerse yourself in all things magical and make-believe when you stay in this North Devonshire treehouse. Suspended above reality and nestled in this cosy cabin amongst the branches, you’ll be well placed to watch the world go by and get up-close with nature on your very own treetop terrace.
Shepherd’s Hut – Winlaton Mill, Newcastle upon Tyne
A family break with a big difference, this snug Shepherd’s up provides a rustic retreat with a difference. The accommodation is comfotable, clean, (and really very cute), and you can picnic outside in the great outdoors before exploring the surrounding countryside. Lovely!
Romany Caravan – Bush Meadows, Cornwall
A stay in this Romany Caravan makes an ideal rustic retreat and is sure to leave you feeling refreshed and revitalized by the great outdoors. Of course the caravan itself isn’t big enough to contain everything you might need for a weekend away, but that’s all been thought of in the form of a sweet summer house next door with a lovely living room and clean, modern bathroom. Glamping perfection!
Vintage Caravans – Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire
Now we know what you’re thinking – but these aren’t just caravans. These are retro style, lovingly restored, and beautifully decorated vintage caravans! Fantastic for a getaway with friends or fun with the family, these pretty crash pads have got views to match.
Geodesic Domes – Mile End, Gloucestershire
Yes, really. You may think we’ve made up this next UK glamping location but these space age structures really do exist and there’s 11 of them. Each of the eco-lodges has an en-suite with proper beds and comfy linen that make it feel more like a boutique hotel-esque escape than an inter-galactic space station. That’s alright then.
Yurts – Lake District, Cumbria
Staying in a yurt is guaranteed to be a unique holiday experience, and when you add to this the breathtaking scenery of the Lake District you’ve got all the elements of an unforgettable escape. We love the idea of being able to watch the stars from the comfort of your own bed!
Brownscombe Tabernacle – South Devon
Who had a Wendy house when they were little? Relive those childhood memories in this grown-up version, set in the stunning scenery of southern Devon. As whimsical on the inside as it is on the outside, this little bolt hole comes complete with a hot-tub for the ultimate adults-only escape.
Roulottes – Melrose, Scottish Borders
Indulge your free spirit in these wonderfully renovated Roulottes (wooden Romany caravans to you and I) set in a pretty meadow overlooked by the stunning Eildon Hills. Each gorgeous caravan has it’s own name and unique personality to match – so set some proper time aside when booking – it’s not easy to pick just one!
Sundance Shepard’s Hut – Watergate Bay, Cornwall
Get away from it all with a stay in this idyllic Shepard’s Hut in Cornwall. Complete with a comfy lounge and fully-equipped cosy kitchen, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in a luxury holiday let, not a watertight wagon! There’s only room for two so this gorgeous escape makes the perfect romantic hideaway.
