Having a big bottom can be a struggle when it comes to buying jeans but, it actually has some other great benefits according to experts!

Women with big bums are smarter and more resistant to chronic illness…

Yup! We aren’t fooling around. Got a booty that could rival Jennifer Lopez or Kim Kardashian? According to a study, conducted by the prestigious Oxford University, women with a larger derrière are more intelligent.

Plus, if you have a big bottom you are less likely to suffer with chronic illness. It also found that women with big bottoms had lower levels of cholesterol and were less likely to develop diabetes.

Big brains + big bottoms + great health = the dream right?

The data from 16,000 women was looked at for a study conducted back in 2010. Needless to say that thousands more women have rejoiced at the news since.

Konstantinos Manolopoulous, lead researcher on the study, said: “The idea that body fat distribution is important to health has been known for some time. However, it is only very recently that thigh fat and a large hip circumference have been shown to promote health; that lower body fat is protective by itself.”

He added: “It is shape that matters and where the fat gathers. Fat around the hips and thighs is good for you but around the tummy is bad. Unfortunately, you tend not to get one without the other.”

In fact, earlier this year experts from the International Agency for Research on Cancer revealed that your waist measurement is as good at predicting your cancer risk as BMI.

Other more recent studies have also boasted about the benefits of having more fat around your bum and thighs.

In 2015 the University of Pittsburgh claimed that the fat supplies in a woman’s bottom and thighs help a baby’s brain development.

Dr Lassek lead the study and explained to The Sunday Times: “You need lots of fat to make a nervous system and the fats in these areas [buttocks and thigh] are also enriched in DHA [docosahexaenoic acid] which is a particularly important component in the human brain.”
