It’s a very simple yes or no answer, but how you see this shape apparently reveals a lot about your personality!
According to a study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, whether you see this shape as a circle or not shows how you view the world politically.
So, is it a circle?
Here is what psychologists had to say on what your answer means…
You are much more likely to be laid back, easy going and liberal in your viewpoints. The study says you probably support LGBT rights, legalisation of drugs and a strong welfare state. In fact you are very flexible in your viewpoints.
You are less flexible in your viewpoints, believing in a small government and a strong military. You are more likely to be a conservative.
Apparently, it is all to do with how flexible we are, and whether we are willing to accept this shape as a circle, despite it not being a perfectly rounded shape.
Psychology expert Ben Ambridge wrote about the study:
“In three studies, participants were shown geometric figures and were asked to identify the extent to which they were “triangles” (or circles, squares),” an overview of the study explains.
“More conservative participants reported greater differentiation between perfect and imperfect shapes than more liberal participants, indicating greater sensitivity to deviance.
“Moreover, shape differentiation partly accounted for the relationship between political ideology and social policy, partially mediating the link between conservatism and harsher punishment of wrongdoers, less support for public aid for disadvantaged groups and less financial backing for policies that benefit marginalised groups in society.”
