Bonus: they don't look like Bridget Jones pants!

One of the great things about the festive season is the food. All of those delicious canapés topped off with glasses of mulled wine and prosecco. Unfortunately, the nicest festive food and drink is definitely not diet friendly therefore we have to find new ways to trick the world into thinking we haven’t overindulged. Which is why we love shaping underwear!

Unlike the shaping undies of yesteryear, today’s undies are anything but frumpy. Yes, there are the standard Bridget Jones-style pants you can still get your hands on but nowadays there are much prettier pieces to invest in.

High waisted knickers that flatten the tummy area, pull in the waist and smooth hips can be found with luxe satin finishes, wild leopard prints and with the sexiest sheer panel detailing.

A simple vest with hidden slimming technology is the easiest way to trim the torso without letting the world know. Both Marks and Spencer and Simply Be have vests with slimming control panels and supportive busts built-in.

Pretty shaping underwear will smooth without any embarrassment

Many of this year’s shaping bodysuits have super low dips on the front to accommodate the wearer’s own bra. Ideal if you’re the proud owner of a generous bust. Rather than have to squeeze boobs into an ill-fitting body, these smart suits allow you to don a fave bra whilst simultaneously sculpting your mid-section.

Shorts and skirts are still excellent ways to tighten the lower half. M&S have a pair of sassy black lace shorts that are ideal for perking-up sagging derrières. They’re also so sexy, we wouldn’t mind if a dastardly Daniel Cleaver-type accidentally (ahem) saw them…

Bridget Jones eat your heart out

The high street’s offering of shaping, sculpting underwear has come on in leaps and bounds since the days of grubby beige, slightly baggy pants. Many brands, including The Collection, now stock shaping undies in colourways to suit a variety of skin tones.
