Easy ways to personalise a simple shop bought selection of nibbles. A mezze platter makes a great starter, lunch for friends or TV nibbles served with warmed pitta bread or crusty bread.

Hummus – Pan fry a handful of pine nuts in a non-stick pan until golden. Sprinkle over a tub of hummus to add a lovely nuttiness and add a light dusting of paprika.

Olives – Buy fresh olives from the deli counter and perk up with a squeeze of lemon and a splash of olive oil, chopped shallot and parsley.

Chargrilled artichokes – Marinated artichokes in jars are great. Drain and add a sprinkle of finely grated lemon zest, crushed garlic and a few thyme sprigs.
