It’s undeniably been a tricky year for Ant McPartlin and his wife Lisa Armstrong.

Following the revelation of Ant’s addiction to painkillers, the long-term couple have been hit with rumours of marriage woes for months now.

The latest in the complicated saga is that Ant is rumoured to want to announce the couple’s split in an official statement this year.

A source revealed to The Sun, “Ant wants to announce it in an official statement in the new year and both try to move on. But Lisa has not agreed to this yet. “

Ant and Lisa, who have been married since 2006, are also said to be living apart. It’s rumoured that when Ant left the I’m A Celeb jungle, he didn’t return to the pair’s marital home. Instead, it’s thought that he’s moved in to a rental property nearby.

So it’s no wonder that Lisa, who is a make-up artist on Strictly Come Dancing, is feeling the effects of a rough year.

The 41-year-old posted a cryptic message to social media yesterday, pointing pretty obviously to her feelings about saying goodbye to 2017.

She shared a Bitmoji snap of a character created in her likeness, holding out a stinky pile of rubbish onto the street, labelled ‘2017’.

Fans of Lisa’s were quick to comment on the tounge-in-cheek pic, sending heartfelt messages of support to Ant’s wife.

One fan wrote, “Sending you hugs sweetheart – even in the darkest of situations you always need to find the positives. They are there when you are ready to see them. Happy New Year lovely lady xxxx”.

While another said, “Here’s to a much better 2018 for both you & , whether that means you are together or apart! I hope you are both happy & the internet trolls leave you alone during this time! Love to you both xxx”.

Understandably, reports are stating that while the pair’s marriage is likely to be over, they have both been left “devastated” by the development.

A source told the Mirror Online, “No one else is involved and they are still on friendly terms. But they are both devastated.”

Here’s to hoping that 2018 is a better year for both Ant and Lisa.
