Drew Barrymore stunned at the red carpet premiere of her new Netflix show Santa Clarita Diet. She showed off her slimmer figure in an LBD.

She revealed on the US Today show: “I was 144 pounds and now I’m 124 pounds. I did it on the filming of a Netflix show [Santa Clarita Diet]”.

In the comedy series, Drew plays Sheila, a real estate agent who becomes a zombie when she dies.

The secret to her weight loss success?

Well, apparently the ‘Santa Clarita Diet’ really works!

“If you’re eating, in her case, human flesh, I basically thought, ‘Well, if a woman was just eating simple protein every day all day long she would lose weight’.” Drew joked. “It’s, like, a very macabre Atkins [diet].”

The actress let her character guide her own eating habits. She added more filling protein to her diet, and watched the pounds fall off as a result.

She revealed that she followed Kimberly Snyder’s methods. She said: “I added some protein like fish and chicken since she’s all vegetarian or vegan.”

She was keen to point out that this was no ‘quick fix’ crash diet. “The weight loss was subtle and un-gimmicky,” she said. Drew commented that viewers will probably notice the transformation as the series progresses. “You notice from the beginning of the season to the end. I was heavy going into it.”

While the actress looks incredible, and assures us, “I feel really great”. She also admits that the weight loss journey wasn’t always easy.

“I’ve been very disciplined and all I did was cry and dream about pizza. I still am dreaming and crying about pizza.”

Yet, despite the difficulties of her diet, she maintains that the show has been a both a blessing and a positive experience for her.

“It was a really great goal line for me, because as much as the weight loss [was] very subtle—it’s attitudinal, it’s empowerment, it’s confidence.”
