"We still break down in tears"
Samia Ghadie is used to drama and heartbreak for her role in Coronation Street. But a recent personal loss has hit the actress hard.
35-year-old Samia, who is married to Dancing On Ice star Sylvian, has shared that 2017 was a tricky year, for a devastating reason.
Speaking to OK! magazine, the Corrie actress reflected on the horrible moment she lost her beloved dog, Sonny.
The pup is thought to be a family dog, who they had had for 11 years, and Samia has described his death as utterly “heartbreaking”. She announced the news in March, but has only just spoken about the emotional loss.
She admitted that aside from losing her father in 2009, losing her much-loved pet dog was one of the “hardest things” she’s ever had to go through.
Reflecting on her 2017, she confessed, “It was a funny old year, really. He was like my baby.
“I’d had him since I was 23. He went through all the highs and lows of the past 11 years with me.
“He was the one little constant in my life and I always had Sonny by my side. Apart from losing my dad, it’s one of the hardest things I’ve had to go through. It was heartbreaking.”
Samia also admitted that the loss has hit not only her, but her whole family. Samia has two children, Freya and Yves, the latter of which she shares with husband Sylvian.
“If we watch videos of him now, we still break down in tears. He was amazing with the kids. We have his picture up in the lounge, so we see him every day.”
We’re sure any animal-lover or those with pets will totally understand where Samia is coming from.
During her interview, Samia was also asked whether she and Sylvian were planning for any more additions to their brood. However, it seems they won’t be expecting the pitter patter of tiny baby feet again any time soon.
“No, we’re happy with our lot. We definitely don’t want to be outnumbered.”, Samia confessed.
“We’ll have another dog before we have another kid – and that’s not even on the cards!”
