Sad news for Benidorm lovers, as the show could be coming to an end very soon!

It is thought that the 10th series of the ITV comedy show (the longest running ITV comedy – ever) could be the last as ratings have steadily dropped in recent years.

The premiere episode of series 10 had a viewership of 4.3million people, which is a 400,000 drop on last year’s launch episode.

A source revealed to The Sun, “Benidorm has been a huge success for ITV for a decade, but bosses feel it’s run its course.

“The ratings have started to drop off and a number of the fan favourites have left, so it just feels as though the time is right to let it go out while it’s still on a high.”

According to The Sun, Benidorm‘s creator Derren Litten has begun working on a new project, a sitcom set in a karaoke bar in Scarborough, which will reportedly run instead of Benidorm.

Derren was quick to downplay the rumours, tweeting that they were untrue.

‘And apparently The Sun are running a story tomorrow on how #Benidorm has been cancelled. Don’t make me fucking laugh, (I enjoyed that story after series 6. And 7 and 8 and 9…)’

The show’s twitter account also seemed to suggest they were not worried about the ratings drop or a possible cancellation.

On Twitter, fans have been divided on the new series. Some love it, and insist there should be more series…

While others feel the show’s best days are behind it…

ITV have said they have not made a decision regarding the future of the show, meaning they have no plans to cancel it – or renew it.

“No decision has been made about a further series,” was the official comment.

It looks as though Benidorm’s fate has yet to be decided. We certainly hope this isn’t the end of such a hilarious show!
