He’s been noticeably absent from our screens of late, but TV favourite Ant McPartlin has still been making his fans happy.

Despite keeping a low profile since his drink drive arrest in March, Ant gave his ‘biggest fan’ the surprise of his life by FaceTiming him over the weekend.

The young fan’s proud mum re-told the story on Twitter of how she’d bumped into the 42-year-old in London and asked him to surprise her five-year-old son.

“In London tonight princess had Lion King training & we bump into Ant @antanddec. My 5yr old son who was at home is a massive fan so Ant face timed him,” she tweeted.

“He was soooo happy & hasn’t stopped saying it’s the best day ever. Thank you Ant for taking the time to speak to us & him.”

It’s the second time in a matter of weeks the TV presenter has taken the time to delight fans, after publicly apologising for letting his supporters down earlier this year.

Shortly after his drink drive arrest, Ant – who has had a turbulent year following his split from Lisa Armstrong – was fined £86,000 and blamed the breakdown of his marriage for his erratic behaviour.

“I am very sorry I did this. I’m ashamed and mortified that this happened and I accept full culpability for this – and wish to apologise to all concerned,” he said.

“I am addressing what I now recognise as problems with alcohol and emotional issues. I recognise that I need to deal with these. As a consequence I have sought specialist help to ensure that nothing of this nature happens again.”

Ant then checked himself back into rehab and announced he’d be taking a break from all further TV appearances – leaving Declan Donnelly to present Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and Britain’s Got Talent alone.

“I’m truly sorry for what happened. Higher standards are expected of me,” he continued.

“I let myself down, I let a lot of people down, for that I’m truly sorry. I’d like to apologise to everyone involved in the crash and I’m just thankful no-one was seriously hurt.”
