Ant McPartlin has given Declan Donnelly his blessing to host Saturday Night Takeaway alone, after Ant’s drink drive arrest last Sunday.

According to new reports, an insider said: “Dec wouldn’t go ahead without Ant giving him the OK. Because of their previous pact to work together throughout their career.”

The TV duo – who host the likes of I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here, Britain’s Got Talent and Saturday Night Takeaway – have always had a pact to not work without the other one.

But, after Ant was formally charged with drink driving on Wednesday and with him set to return to rehab, Dec made the difficult decision to host the final two shows alone.

In a statement, Dec said: “Whilst I never thought I’d be in this position after much discussion and careful consideration we’ve decided that the remaining two shows of this series of Saturday Night Takeaway will go ahead.

“We made a a promise to take hundreds of deserving winners to Florida to watch the series finale, and we will honour that.

“Everyone at ITV and the Takeaway team feels we owe it to the audience to complete the series. Dec x”

While it’s been widely reported that Dec could be joined by Scarlett Moffatt or Stephen Mulhern for next Saturday’s show, Dec will front it alone.

Scarlett and Stephen will be on hand to co-host their usual slots and Paloma Faith, The Script and Stephen Merchant will take part in Singalong Live, the End Of The Show Show and the Star Guest Announcer – completing the line-up.

With Dec said to be “absolutely devastated” and “stressed” over appearing on TV without his side-kick Ant, fans rallied around the 42-year-old.

“Feel sorry for Dec, he’s got to make the best of a bad situation,” one fan wrote. Another tweeted: “It’s Dec I feel sorry for. His career on the line and him having no control over it.”
